set the temperature at any time, or even schedule settings for different
Maximize your windows. Insulated
curtains that snugly fit your windows keep the heat in and the cold out.
Or use plastic film to seal your windows and trap the heat inside.
During sunny days, open the curtains on your south-facing windows to let
the sun naturally heat up your house.
Don't forget weatherstripping and caulk. Got
leaks? Even a tiny hole around a window or door frame can let warm air
escape. Use weatherstripping and caulk to seal every inch possible, and
don't forget areas where pipes or cables come into the house.
Close that flue! Fireplaces
are a prime place for energy to escape. Have your fireplace cleaned and
sealed, and always keep the flue closed when you're not using the
fireplace. To heat your home with the fireplace, install glass fireplace
doors and an exchange system to push warm air in and pull cold air out.
Make your hot water heater cozy. Use a water heater insulator kit, which you can find at any Home Depot or Lowe’s.
